What Are Trip Charges and Diagnostic Fees?

When you are looking for heating, air conditioning or plumbing services from Service Experts Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing, you will pay a trip charge and a diagnostic fee individually. Many companies you’ve worked with in the past might have combined the trip charge and diagnostic fee, but we believe we can provide you with greater value by keeping them separate.

What Exactly Is a Trip Charge?

A trip charge includes the cost for a qualified plumber or HVAC technician to visit your home. Sometimes called a service call fee, this cost is the standard rate for delivering our technicians, equipment and expertise to your doorstep. If you want to eliminate trip charges in the future, you can look into joining one of our membership plans

What Is a Diagnostic Fee?

The diagnostic fee is made up of the services necessary to find the root of a problem. With plumbing, this may be comprised of scoping. During HVAC repairs, it could involve examining the inside of your unit. If you decide to use Service Experts Heating, Air Conditioning & Plumbing for any repairs, the diagnostic fee would be rolled into the repair bill. That said, you will be charged for the diagnostic services alone if you don’t.

What Is the Difference Between a Trip Fee and a Diagnostic Fee

Generally speaking, a trip fee includes sending the plumber or HVAC technician to your home, while the diagnostic fee addresses all the work involved in assessing the problem and figuring out a plan for repairs. If you are paying for repairs, you won’t even notice the diagnostic fee because it will be absorbed into the cost of the repairs.

Why Are Diagnostic Fees and Trip Charges Billed Individually?

Many plumbers and HVAC companies are going to charge one fee for both the trip and the diagnostics. Instead of charging you for two services together, we have two distinct fees. This allows us to price our services in the fairest available manner.
