Pine State Services Raises Funds for Maine Children’s Cancer Program

Our team set a goal this past summer to raise $40,000 for the local children’s hospital.

Fighting Children’s Cancer as a Community

Maine Children’s Cancer Program has state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging technology, Maine’s only on-site molecular diagnostics lab, a pediatric intensive care unit, and a team of highly-qualified, experienced, and caring physicians, nurses, social workers, and research associates who work together to ensure all children receive the best care possible.

The Problem

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), approximately 400,000 children and teens between 0-19 years old are diagnosed with cancer every year.

Maine alone has consistently recorded approximately 60 cases of pediatric cancer every year for over a decade, according to Dr. Bruce Bates, the director of the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention.

Cancer can affect any part of the body in people of all ages. Survival rates of cancer in high-income countries are around 80 percent: a number that relies on early diagnosis, treatment, and care to improve quality of life.

The Plan

Our team decided to start fundraising efforts to benefit the Maine Children’s Cancer Program. The plan was to donate $150 of every Mitsubishi heat pump system to hit our ultimate goal of $40,000. To thank our local healthcare workers, we also offered all Maine Health employees membership to our 3-year Preferred Customer Club at no cost! This membership grants priority status for scheduling, as well as annual maintenance services, discounted repairs, and year-round emergency services.

The Results

While we came up short of our initial goal of $40,000, our community stepped up, and together, we were able to raise over $16,000 for Maine Children’s Cancer Program!
