Helping Maine Children’s Cancer Program

Thank You to our customers who have helped Pine State Services raise $16,800 for the program!

Here at Pine State Services, we are always looking for ways we can help our community. That means not only do we help you stay comfortable in your homes or businesses, but we get involved with causes we feel will greatly benefit society. One of these causes is the noble cause of battling children’s cancer, and that’s why we’re proud to partner with the Maine Children’s Cancer Program to battle this disease and raise funds for awareness, treatment, and ongoing research.people holding a check

In the summer of 2020, together with the help of our customers, we raised a total of $16,800 in one summer! While we did not hit our goals fo $40,000, we are still extremely thankful for the generous contributions from our customers and it all goes an incredibly long way. Here’s how we did it: for every Mitsubishi heat pump system we installed that summer, we pledged to donate $150. The fundraising efforts began on Memorial Day and ran through Thanksgiving Day of that year.

Supporting Children’s Cancer Workers

In addition, we are proud to offer all Maine Health employees a free 3-year Preferred Customer Club Membership—an offer worth over $200! The Preferred Customer Club membership will grant Maine Health employees priority status with Pine State Services, including front-of-the-line scheduling, discounted repairs, annual maintenance services, and year-round emergency service availability from Maine’s premier team of licensed heating and cooling technicians.

Sobering Stats About Children’s Cancer

Cancer is a scourge that affects us all, but it is an unfortunate reality for so many children throughout the state each year as well. Here are just a few of the sobering numbers that tell just a part of the story of how serious this issue is for our community and how much it affects us.

  • An average of 50 to 60 children are newly diagnosed with cancer in the state of Maine each year
  • An average of 200 children are on active treatment at the Maine Children’s Cancer Program at any given time
  • The Maine Children’s Cancer Program has treated 1,472 patients since the program began up through the start of the year 2020

About the Maine Children’s Cancer Program

The Maine Children’s Cancer Program is the Pediatric Oncology program of the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital at Maine Medical Center. This organization’s goal is to help young children battling serious cancer and blood-related conditions get the treatment they need in an environment that’s safe, fostering, and supportive.

The organization provides medical care and treatment for pediatric cancer patients, including keeping patients with the same team throughout treatment for familiarity and comfort. They also offer clinical research as a member of the Children’s Oncology Group. Finally, they also offer psycho-social support services, including having social workers on staff who can help patients and families navigate this traumatic experience with friendly counseling, therapy, and more.

Want to get involved today? You can! You can donate to the MCCP by visiting their website.

Together, we can raise this vital funding to support Maine’s youngest cancer fighters. If you're thinking about installing a heat pump this year, call Pine State Services at F:P:Sub:Phone} to help make a difference in the fight against childhood cancer.
